Generally, People make big mistakes about the concept of RAM and ROM. People totally confused between RAM and ROM.
Those who don’t want to make mistakes before buying any smartphone or laptop or whatever it is. So lets clear the concept of RAM and ROM.
What is RAM?
Random Access Memory(RAM), is the hardware in computing devices.
It is a temporary storage device in our devices.
But it stores only the data and application which are currently in use. So if a device has more RAM than it will work faster.
When your get hangs then you must understand that RAM is responsible for this.
There are two types of RAM.
Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), makes up the typical computing device’s RAM and, as was previously noted, it needs that power to be on to retain stored data.
Static Random Access Memory(SRAM), also needs constant power to hold on to data, but it doesn’t need to be continually refreshed the way DRAM does.
Random Access Memory is a volatile memory.
That means data doesn’t remain store in RAM for forever.
It is called volatile memory because of the fact that it can store data only when the computing device is on.
But data is completely lost when the computing device is turned off.
when the computing device is rebooted, the OS and other files reloaded to RAM usually from HDD or SDD.
What is ROM?
Read Only Memory (ROM), also an important hardware device in a computing device.
It is a permanent storage device.
It contains the programming needed to start a PC, which is essential for boot-up.it performs major input and output tasks and holds programs or software instructions.
Devices usually don’t hang due to ROM alike RAM. There are three types of ROM-
- Programmable Read-Only Memory (PROM) -This type of ROM can be re-programmed by using a special device called a PROM programmer.
- Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EPROM).
- Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM).
Read Only Memory(RAM) is a non-volatile memory.
It has the capacity to store a data for a lifetime unless the data is deleted by the user himself.
It doesn’t lose its data when the power is turned off.
